At Macmillan, you'll find talented people working together to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. We're going all out to find even better ways to help even more people who need our support. Our values are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, inspiring our thinking and guiding our actions.

It is an incredibly exciting time to join Macmillan as we launch a new strategy, and this role will be pivotal for ensuring its successful implementation so we can achieve the best outcomes for people with cancer

About the role

Our Strategist is responsible for developing and implementing our strategy so that we can achieve the best outcomes for people with cancer.

Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, you will play a key role in developing recommendations to evolve and iterate our strategy, informed by the external environment and grounded in the needs of people living with cancer.

You will also drive the successful implementation of the strategy – inspiring, galvanising and co-ordinating teams across Macmillan to translate the strategy into actionable plans and initiatives. You will play a key role in driving an agile, flexible and focused planning process to build a comprehensive and stream-lined corporate plan aligned with our strategic ambitions.

About you:

We’re looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Excellent understanding and experience of developing strategic recommendations to address complex issues.
  • Knowledge of models of strategy development and the ability to lead diverse multi-disciplined teams through these processes.
  • Demonstrable experience of translating strategy into action – working cross-organisationally to develop and drive progress against a corporate plan.
  • Ability to bring together views, perspectives and diverse needs of stakeholders to achieve progress – including the needs of people living with cancer.
  • Experienced at building strong interpersonal relationships with the ability to challenges assumptions constructively and be receptive to new ideas.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting executive decision-making.
  • Excellent communications skills, able to explain complex issues in a way that is easy to understand.
  • Experience at delivering at pace, setting out clear processes and ensuring everyone understands their role and responsibility to ensure delivery of timely, quality outcomes.
  • Desirable: Understanding of health and social care within the UK, in particular an understanding of the NHS and the wider external context as it relates to Macmillan’s opportunities and threats.

In return, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
  • Pension matched up to 7.5%
  • 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
  • Flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours, flexibility to work earlier or later around our core working hours of 10am-4pm
  • Holiday buying and selling scheme, life insurance, free wills, retail discounts and much more
