Senior Project Manager - Infrastructure

Fixed Term Contract (12 months) 

Full time (34.5 hours), we are open to a conversation about how you work these hours

Location: Split between home and our London Office

Salary Range £60,000 - £66,000

About the role

In this role you will manage the delivery of complex projects, often where there are significant interdependencies between teams within Macmillan or externally. The role will work closely with colleagues in Technology and other stakeholders across Macmillan to ensure projects are delivered on time and that forecast benefits are achieved. You will have a solid understanding of IT infrastructure, data, software, development, and cloud technology, conversing with ease with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. They are responsible for planning and control, stakeholder engagement, risk and issue management, budget management and governance and reporting.

The role will be managing two key infrastructure changes:

  • Windows 11 upgrade – critical time sensitive initiative aimed at enhancing security, improving user experience and ensuring compatibility with modern applications
  • Network Redesign - large programme of work replacing all the physical network equipment for Macmillan and old connectivity for each of the Macmillan office spaces

Key responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for scoping, planning, and delivering crucial technology infrastructure projects aligned to the organisation’s wider transformation strategy. You are an expert in programme and project management and will work with the wider change community to establish best practice and lead in its implementation.
  • Be responsible for the day to day management of projects, acting on behalf of the Sponsor, as required.
  • Make project decisions based on what’s best for the organisation, and challenge stakeholders on critical success factors.
  • Ensure project documentation is maintained, in consultation with the project sponsor as appropriate and other stakeholders, capturing risks, issues and decisions that need to be communicated to the appropriate project governance groups.
  • Plan, scope and monitor projects and resources, including coordinating the production of Investment Cases and annual plans.
  • Oversee timely and relevant communications of project activities to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the Heads of Product and Agile Delivery lead to manage cross team dependencies, risks and issues.
  • Manage and coordinate multiple external suppliers to support the delivery of complex integrated systems as the projects demands and hold them to account according to the supplier agreement.

About you

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • A project management qualification (i.e. APMQ, Prince 2, MSP) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Significant experience of leading large complex technology projects, including business change activity.
  • A technical background and have experience of data centre migrations. modern desktops and Microsoft Intune
  • You have a working knowledge of networking concepts, application, VMware server virtualisation and storage (SAN) systems.
  • Awareness of SDWAN and Virtual WAN deployments
  • Proven experience and knowledge of project management methodologies.
  • Excellent leadership, relationship management and influencing skills.
  • Experience of using standard programme/ project management tools.
  • Experience of working flexibly, managing several activities at one time and resolving conflicting priorities effectively.
  • Experience of delivering on target to tight deadlines and to specified quality.
  • Experience of matrix management within complex organisations and influencing at the highest level.
  • Experience of project management, budgeting, budget management, strategic and operational planning, insight gathering and evaluation.
