About the role
This role is about leading insightful analysis of the national cancer system and wider health service—examining patient experiences, system challenges, and impactful innovations—to identify evidence-based solutions that drive meaningful change. Acting as a thought leader, you'll bring expertise in systems thinking and theory of change to shape Macmillan’s national influence and help prioritise where and how the organisation can make the biggest difference.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse the national cancer system to understand patient experiences, system challenges, and what’s working—helping to shape evidence-based solutions that drive real change.
- Be a thought leader for Macmillan, offering insight and expertise on national health system challenges and opportunities.
- Use tools like systems thinking, theory of change, and ‘what works’ evidence to understand problems and identify impactful solutions.
- Contribute to big-picture thinking across the organisation, helping Macmillan decide where to focus and how national system change can help deliver its goals.
About you
We're looking for someone who:
- Has a strong track record of creating evidence-based solutions that lead to real, national change.
- Understands how the healthcare system works as a whole and can apply systems thinking to tackle complex problems.
- Brings sharp analytical skills—able to dig into data, uncover root causes, spot gaps, and shape impactful solutions.
- Can bring people together—internally and externally—to build shared thinking and drive action.
- Knows how to navigate and make an impact across all four nations of the UK, adapting to different political and policy landscapes.
In return, we offer a range of benefits including:
- 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
- Pension matched up to 7.5%
- 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
- Flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours, flexibility to work earlier or later around our core working hours of 10am-4pm
- Holiday buying and selling scheme, life insurance, free wills, retail discounts and much more
