We are recruiting a Senior Cancer Information Nurse Specialist to join our team on the Macmillan Support Line and would love to hear from you!

About us

At Macmillan you'll find talented people working together to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. We're going all out to find even better ways to help even more people who need our support. Our values are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, inspiring our thinking and guiding our actions.

Our new organisational strategy sets out how we’ll fight even harder to make every pound raised count for even more. With your help, we’ll transform cancer care for good.

About the role

As a Senior Cancer Information Nurse Specialist, you will lead and manage a team of Nurses on the Macmillan Support Line to deliver a high-quality service to people affected by and living with cancer.

Working on a helpline and across omni channels (including email, webchat, digital platforms) to support people is a fundamental part of this role. You’ll be accountable for day-to-day management of the service team, working in a busy and varied environment where demand can change rapidly throughout the day. To meet this need, we use contact centre technology and methodologies that help us respond efficiently and effectively - ensuring people affected by cancer get the support they require.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a team that is part of a multi-disciplinary service providing holistic support to people with cancer. You will be responsible for the development of individuals and your team, ensuring their development needs are addressed and providing clinical knowledge and expertise to support them in their day-to-day responsibilities.

Working hours

Our Support Line is available 365 days a year, including bank holidays, from 8am to 8pm. It is key to our strategic objective of reaching everyone whilst focusing on those who need the most support. To cover our service and opening hours, you will be required to work a shift pattern on a 4-week rota. We are open to discussing a condensed working pattern, if you are successful at reaching interview and offer stage.

About you

To carry out this role you will need to be a Registered Nurse (Adult) with significant experience in oncology and/or palliative care. You will have excellent communication skills, people management experience and an in-depth understanding of the needs of people living with and affected by cancer.

You will bring:

  • Significant and current experience as a first level registered nurse, with expert knowledge of oncology and/or palliative care
  • Degree in Nursing
  • Experience of managing an information and advice service, preferably within a contact centre environment
  • Experience in people management, particularly in coaching, mentoring and developing staff
  • Detailed understanding of the standards of conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives (NMC, 2024)
  • Experience of undertaking staff appraisal and development of individual learning plans
  • Willingness to become an NMC confirmer to enable revalidation of SLS Nurses

As this is a home-based role, you will also need:

  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite of applications, including Microsoft Teams. Comfortable with using digital platforms to support the people who contact the support line.
  • A reliable broadband connection with upload and download speeds of at least 3mbps
  • To comply with strict data protection rules you must have a private, confidential space to work from.

We will provide all IT equipment needed for the role. There may be occasions where you will have the option to travel to one of our offices (London, Glasgow, or Shipley – West Yorkshire) for events, training, or meetings.

We offer a range of benefits including:

  • 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
  • Pension matched up to 7.5%
  • 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
