At Macmillan, we’re doing whatever it takes to help people living with cancer live life as fully as they can. Evidence and insight are central to how we deliver that support and we are currently recruiting a Research & Evaluation Manager on a 12-month fixed term contract to lead our Research & Evaluation team and strengthen Macmillan’s ability to measure, understand and learn from the impact of our work.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership and oversight across research and evaluation activities, ensuring high-quality, inclusive and impactful outputs that inform decision-making across the organisation. You’ll lead a team of specialists, foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement, and support colleagues to use evidence to shape services, programmes and strategy.
You’ll provide technical expertise and oversight of a portfolio of research and evaluation projects, ensuring insights are shared in accessible ways and embedded into organisational learning. You’ll also work closely with colleagues to refine Macmillan’s theory of change and ensure alignment with our measurement frameworks and strategic reporting.
A key part of the role will involve commissioning and managing external research and evaluation partners, including leading invitation to tender (ITT) processes and building strong supplier relationships to maximise value and impact.
About you
We are looking for someone with strong research and evaluation expertise, including qualitative and quantitative methods, theory-based evaluation approaches, and experience evaluating services or programmes. You’ll bring excellent communication and analytical skills, strong stakeholder management experience, and the ability to influence across a complex organisation. In this role you will be leading an established team so proven experience in managing a team within a matrix environment is strongly desirable.
Experience in the health, social care, or charity sector and an understanding of value-for-money or health economics approaches would be highly beneficial.
This is a fantastic opportunity to lead impactful work that helps Macmillan better support people living with cancer through evidence-driven decision making.
