About Us:
Macmillan Cancer Support is on the lookout for a passionate and dedicated Trustee to join our Board as our Chair of Finance, Risk & Audit Committee. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a leading charity that is committed to improving the lives of people affected by cancer.
The Board of Trustees is responsible for defining the strategic direction of Macmillan and ensuring that our policies and strategies effectively support our mission. As a Trustee, you will work closely with our experienced Board, which meets regularly to guide the charity's vision and operations.
About the role:
- Lead the Committee in overseeing Macmillan’s financial performance, controls, and investment strategy.
- Provide assurance to the Board on audit quality (internal and external), risk management, and financial resilience.
- Oversee internal control systems, including cyber security, data governance, and fraud mitigation.
- Work closely with the CFOO and internal audit team to review audit plans and outcomes.
- Monitor key organisational risks, including those related to economic volatility and digital transformation.
- Ensure the Committee reviews whistleblowing procedures, fraud reports, and governance best practices.
About you:
- Experienced Finance and Audit Committee member with a successful track record of being part of finance, audit or risk committees within complex organisations.
- Extensive senior-level expertise in financial strategy, cyber/data risk, audit, and risk assurance frameworks, gained in an Executive or Non-Executive or governance context.
- Strong understanding of assurance, ideally having led complex assurance processes in complex organisations.
Interest in and commitment to the mission, values and vision of Macmillan, and a strong commitment to improving the lives of people affected by cancer. - Willingness and ability to devote the necessary time commitment to the role of Chair of the Finance, Risk & Audit Committee at Macmillan Cancer Support.
