Chair of the Board of Trustees 

Macmillan Cancer Support provides vital support for people living with cancer. As Chair, you’ll help steer the charity during a critical time to ensure its continued impact.

We are seeking a visionary leader to Chair our Board of Trustees. This is a unique opportunity to guide the charity through its transformative strategy and ensure it continues to improve the lives of people affected by cancer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of the Board: Lead the Board, ensuring openness, inclusivity, and effective contributions from all Trustees.
  • Board Effectiveness and Governance: Ensure robust governance, effective decision-making, and uphold Macmillan’s values. Mentor new Trustees and oversee their development.
  • Stakeholder Management: Build strong relationships with the Chief Executive, Trustees, and key stakeholders. Act as an ambassador for Macmillan.
  • Performance Evaluation and Development: Lead the annual Board evaluation and Chief Executive appraisal. Ensure Trustees’ skills are continually updated.

Essential Experience:

  • Proven experience as an effective Chair with a diverse Board.
  • Knowledge of the UK Healthcare/NHS sector, preferably in a Non-Executive capacity.
  • Strong commitment to Macmillan’s mission and values.
  • Leadership experience at the C-level of a complex organisation.
  • Ability to manage key stakeholder relationships and advocate for Macmillan.
