About Us

At Macmillan Cancer Support, we do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. Behind every call answered, every grant awarded and every service delivered is personal information that must be handled with care, respect and integrity. That’s where you come in.

We’re looking for an Information Governance Officer to join our friendly and collaborative Information Governance team of five on a 12-month fixed term contract. In this vital role, you’ll help ensure we manage personal information responsibly, transparently and in line with legal and regulatory standards, protecting the trust placed in us by people living with cancer, supporters and colleagues. If you’re passionate about doing the right thing, confident navigating data protection requirements, and motivated by purpose-driven work, we’d love to hear from you.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll play a key role in maintaining high standards of compliance and accountability across Macmillan. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Independently managing data protection queries via the Information Governance inbox
  • Maintaining and developing Macmillan’s Information Asset Register, working closely with stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Supporting the processing of individual rights requests (including DSARs and right to erasure requests)
  • Delivering engaging training sessions on Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and information incident reporting
  • Supporting information incident management, including investigation and shared learning
  • Managing and completing Legitimate Interest Assessments
  • Overseeing Information Governance administrative processes, including invoices, intranet updates and compliance dashboards
  • Adhering to all relevant Macmillan policies and contributing to wider organisational success

What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who combines technical knowledge with clarity, care and confidence. You’ll have:

  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills
  • The ability to explain complex legal or regulatory requirements clearly and accessibly
  • Experience handling sensitive or confidential information with professionalism and discretion
  • The confidence to work independently while managing competing priorities
  • A good understanding of UK data protection law and how it applies in practice, particularly in relation to information rights is desirable.
