Are you passionate about supporting people through some of the most challenging moments of their lives? Do you thrive in a people‑focused role where every day brings an opportunity to make a real difference?

We’re looking for a compassionate and organised Information Services Support Worker to join our team at the Macmillan Horizon Centre in Brighton.

About the role

The Macmillan Horizon Centre is a welcoming, supportive space for people affected by cancer across Sussex. Working closely with University Hospitals Sussex and a dedicated team of staff and volunteers, we provide information, emotional support, and practical advice for anyone who needs us. Our volunteers are at the heart of what we do, and this role is key to ensuring they - and our clients - receive the best possible experience.

Based on-site at the Horizon Centre in Brighton, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our Information & Support Service runs smoothly and consistently. You’ll provide direct support to people living with or affected by cancer—whether in person, by phone or email—offering guidance, reassurance, and signposting to the right resources.

You’ll also support and supervise a committed team of Information & Support volunteers, helping them develop the skills and confidence to deliver high-quality support. Working closely with the Information Services Manager, you’ll help maintain the professional standards of the service, keep our processes running efficiently, and ensure the Horizon Centre remains a safe, welcoming, and well‑organised environment.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide information and emotional support to clients accessing the Horizon Centre - in person, by email, and by telephone.
  • Ensure consistent, high‑quality delivery of the Information & Support service within the Horizon Centre and maintain appropriate volunteer cover.
  • Supervise, mentor, and support Information & Support volunteers, including involvement in recruitment, training and ongoing development.
  • Support the smooth running of the service using established IT processes for client registration, appointments and information management.
  • Prepare and reconfigure rooms to support events and services, ensuring timely transitions and efficient setups.
  • Work collaboratively with the Information Services Manager, Horizon Centre staff, volunteers, clients and service delivery partners.

About you

You are someone who enjoys supporting people, juggling multiple priorities, and keeping things running smoothly. You will bring:

  • Proven experience using MS Office and other digital platforms (e.g. booking or scheduling systems)
  • Experience in a public‑facing role (bonus if it’s in a healthcare setting)
  • Strong planning, organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong relationship‑building and communication skills
  • Experience supporting or supervising others
  • Empathy and a genuine desire to support people affected by cancer

This role is based on-site at the Horizon Centre in Brighton, so applicants should live in Brighton or the surrounding areas.

In return, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
  • Pension matched up to 7.5%
  • 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
  • Holiday buying and selling scheme, life insurance, free wills, retail discounts and much more
