At Macmillan you'll find talented people working together to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. We're going all out to find even better ways to help even more people who need our support. Our values are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, inspiring our thinking and guiding our actions.

About the role:

Macmillan Cancer Support is committed to ensuring everyone who interacts with our services experiences inclusion, equity, and diversity. As Head of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), you will play an integral role in leading the development and delivery of our EDI strategy, working closely with the Board and Trustees and Leadership team to ensure alignment with our organisational objectives. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing EDI strategy delivery plans internally within Macmillan and externally across our partners, communities, and the healthcare system to  drive cultural change and embed inclusion in all that we do.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead and inspire the EDI team, and broader teams across the organisation in alignment with Macmillan’s People & Culture strategy, to build a truly inclusive environment, where all colleagues belong and can do their best work.
  • Strategic Advisory: Advise the Executive Team and work closely with the Board and Trustees to ensure equity is embedded throughout Macmillan’s strategies and initiatives. Helping to build cultural competence internally and drive a culture of inclusion and belonging.
  • Strategy Development & Delivery: Develop and implement EDI strategy delivery plans that reflect our commitments, ensuring alignment with Macmillan’s culture, operations, and service delivery.
  • Engagement & Partnerships: Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring Macmillan leads in the EDI space. Engage with communities and systems to identify and overcome barriers to service access.
  • Governance & Accountability: Ensure adherence to EDI governance frameworks and hold leaders accountable for embedding EDI practices within teams.
  • Measurement & Reporting: Monitor progress on EDI objectives, providing insights and updates to the Executive Team and Trustees.
  • Talent Development: Foster an inclusive workforce and support ongoing learning and talent management aligned with EDI goals.

About you:

We are looking for a strategic leader with a proven track record in:

  • Developing and implementing EDI strategy delivery plans within organisations and across communities and partners.
  • Advising senior leaders on complex EDI issues and using an evidence/data driven approach to inform recommendations.
  • Influencing a wide range of stakeholders and able to effectively deliver through multi-skilled/matrix team set ups.
  • Engaging with diverse communities and stakeholders to inform EDI initiatives.
  • Leading governance systems to manage EDI priorities effectively
  • Whilst it is not essential, understanding of the health care landscape would be beneficial.

You will also have strong skills in:

  • Planning and project management.
  • Data analysis and translating insights into action.
  • Communicating and presenting to diverse audiences.
  • Building relationships to drive consensus and collaboration.

In return, we offer a range of benefits including:

  • 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
  • Pension matched up to 7.5%
  • 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
  • Flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours, flexibility to work earlier or later around our core working hours of 10am-4pm
