About the role 

As Director of Strategy, Architecture & Engineering, you will define and lead our long-term technology vision, ensuring every investment we make delivers real value for our users, our colleagues, and the people we support. 

Working in close partnership with our Director of Product, you will be jointly accountable for turning strategy into outcomes, ensuring delivery is predictable, secure, user-centred, and high quality. 

You’ll shape how we design, build, and deliver modern, scalable technology, enabling sustainable growth and exceptional experiences across Macmillan. 

What you’ll do 

  • Define and lead our enterprise-wide technology strategy, principles, and investment priorities 
  • Translate organisational ambition into clear, actionable roadmaps 
  • Drive innovation by identifying emerging technologies, opportunities, and risks 
  • Make evidence-based investment decisions, stopping or reshaping initiatives when needed 
  • Lead enterprise architecture and set the architectural vision, standards, and governance across platforms, data, and systems 
  • Ensure technology is scalable, secure, and aligned, enabling faster delivery and lower complexity 
  • Champion simplification, modernisation, and smarter use of data across the organisation 
  • Lead high-performing engineering teams to deliver resilient, secure, user-focused products whilst helping to establish modern engineering practices (DevSecOps, CI/CD, continuous improvement) 
  • Ensure predictable, outcome-led delivery in partnership with Product 
  • Inspire, develop, and empower diverse, high-performing teams 
  • Create an environment where innovation, learning, and accountability thrive 
  • Role model inclusive, collaborative leadership aligned to Macmillan’s values 
  • Drive governance, performance & value 
  • Oversee technology governance, risk, and compliance 
  • Use data and insight to inform decisions at Executive and Board level 
  • Manage strategic suppliers and technology partners effectively 

What you’ll bring 

  • Proven senior leadership across technology strategy, architecture, and engineering delivery 
  • A strong track record of delivering multi-year technology strategies in complex environments 
  • Experience leading large-scale, end-to-end delivery, balancing pace, quality, security, and cost 
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver measurable value from technology investments 
  • Deep expertise in modern engineering practices, cloud platforms, and integration patterns 
  • Strong partnership experience with Product leadership 
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills, including Executive and Board-level influence 
  • A passion for building inclusive, high-performing teams 
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen
