Are you an Allied Health Professional with expertise and a passion for community rehabilitation for people with cancer and other long term conditions? Are you looking for a new challenge and interested in working in the charitable sector?

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join Macmillan’s Centre of Clinical Expertise as a Clinical Fellow for Community Rehabilitation.

About the role

One of Macmillan’s significant programmes of work over the next 5 years is Neighbourhood Health Transformation. We are looking for a Clinical Fellow who will develop and help strengthen neighbourhood-level rehabilitation pathways for people with cancer and other long term conditions.

We know that access to rehabilitation for people with cancer and other long term conditions is variable and inequitable across the country with patient needs not always addressed in a timely way. There is an opportunity to focus in on interventions through development of integrated pathways that will support people with prehabilitation and rehabilitation needs.

This work will strive to ensure cancer rehabilitation is highly visible within neighbourhood multidisciplinary teams through developing examples of building out existing services such as cardiac rehabilitation, pulmonary rehabilitation and stroke rehabilitation and having generic rehabilitation offers rather than disease specific.

This role will work with the Community Rehabilitation Alliance (CRA) and other key stakeholders.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and deliver a defined programme of work focused on community rehabilitation for people with cancer and other long term conditions
  • Generate insight into the experiences, outcomes and inequalities affecting people with cancer and other long term conditions
  • Map and assess exemplar services and models of care across the UK
  • Develop practical tools and guidance to support clinicians (e.g. communication, consent, decision-making, future care planning)
  • Build partnerships with wider system stakeholders and organisations
  • Engage with clinicians, people with lived experience and carers to inform your work
  • Influence national thinking and contribute to improving integrated pathways
  • Produce high-quality outputs including reports, resources and recommendations
  • Represent Macmillan externally and contribute to wider clinical and system leadership work

About you

We’re looking for a registered Allied Health Professional who:

  • Has expertise and a strong interest in community rehabilitation in people with cancer and other long term conditions.
  • Has experience of clinical leadership, service improvement or system working
  • Can work at a regional or national level and build effective professional networks
  • Is passionate about tackling inequalities and improving patient and carer experience
  • Has strong analytical, communication and organisational skills
  • Is able to translate evidence and insight into a best practice guide from reviewing evidence from different approaches of community rehabilitation considering contemporary service models.

Why join us?

This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to:

  • Influence care at a national level
  • Work across organisational boundaries with leading partners
  • Develop your clinical leadership and strategic skills
  • Be part of a supportive Clinical Fellow community
  • Help shape the future of care for people living with cancer and other long term conditions
