Are you a passionate and motivated nurse with a strong interest in dementia, cancer care or long-term conditions? Are you looking for a new challenge and interested in working in the charitable sector?
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join Macmillan’s Centre of Clinical Expertise as a Clinical Fellow for Cancer and Dementia.
About the role
This unique fellowship sits at the intersection of cancer and other long-term conditions—one of Macmillan’s key strategic priorities. You will bring clinical expertise, insight and leadership to help improve outcomes and experiences for people living with both cancer and dementia, an area where significant inequalities and unmet needs persist.
People with dementia who develop cancer often experience delays in diagnosis, reduced access to treatment, poorer outcomes, and additional challenges navigating complex care pathways. This fellowship offers an exciting opportunity to shape how Macmillan and the health and care sectors respond to these challenges.
Working as part of a cohort of Clinical Fellows, you will lead a defined project focused on improving understanding, influencing practice and developing practical guidance to support more dementia-aware cancer care.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver a defined programme of work focused on cancer and dementia
- Generate insight into the experiences, outcomes and inequalities affecting people with both conditions
- Map and assess exemplar services and models of care across the UK
- Develop practical tools and guidance to support clinicians (e.g. communication, consent, decision-making, future care planning)
- Build partnerships with organisations such as Dementia UK and wider system stakeholders
- Engage with clinicians, people with lived experience and carers to inform your work
- Influence national thinking and contribute to improving cancer pathways for people with dementia
- Produce high-quality outputs including reports, resources and recommendations
- Represent Macmillan externally and contribute to wider clinical and system leadership work
About you
We’re looking for a registered Nurse who:
- Has expertise or a strong interest in dementia, cancer care, or long-term conditions
- Has experience of clinical leadership, service improvement or system working
- Can work at a regional or national level and build effective professional networks
- Is passionate about tackling inequalities and improving patient and carer experience
- Has strong analytical, communication and organisational skills
- Is able to translate evidence and insight into practical recommendations and outputs
Why join us?
This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to:
- Influence care at a national level
- Work across organisational boundaries with leading partners
- Develop your clinical leadership and strategic skills
- Be part of a supportive Clinical Fellow community
- Help shape the future of care for people living with cancer and dementia
