About the role:
Interested in joining the Challenge Events Team at Macmillan? We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Challenge Events Team Manager, to head up a high performing team of seven. Reporting to the Head of Challenge Events you will have responsibility for the strategy, development and delivery of Macmillan’s DIY and Virtual Event portfolio including Swim It, Facebook Challenges, Supporter-led activity and other virtual events, raising £7m+ to help support people living with cancer in the UK.
This role also line manages the Challenge Events Support Manager, who is responsible for team wide merchandise, fulfilment and other centralised processes.
Alongside a clear track record of delivering results and financial management, you will demonstrate a capacity for strong leadership and the people skills needed to focus and co-ordinate the activities of a busy team.
Your relationship management and negotiation skills will be key in delivering team strategy and finalising the 2026 product portfolio with a focus on optimising net fundraised income.

This role does require weekend work (although not at your desk) as you’ll be out and about meeting, cheering and thanking our amazing runners, hikers and cyclists. Any offers on this role are made subject to a criminal records disclosure check or equivalent.
About you:
You should have demonstrable experience of:
- Leadership and Team Management: Inspiring the team to high levels of performance and championing collaboration and inclusivity.
- Relationship Management and Innovation: Identifying new and developing existing events and fundraising products to add long term value to the Challenge Events programme.
- Project Delivery: Responsible for your teams planning, marketing, delivery and optimisations of your fundraising product portfolio.
- Negotiation: Lead on negotiating complex supplier relationships to maximise long term value to Macmillan.
- Financial Management: Accountability for substantial income and expenditure budgets, responsible for reforecasting and reporting on performance to senior leadership.
- Market Knowledge: Understanding of fundraising, events and relevant health & safety and best practice.
