Our values are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, inspiring our thinking and guiding our actions.
Challenge Event Manager for Mighty Hikes
Each year we recruit thousands of people to take part in the Macmillan Mighty Hikes, a sector-leading series of hiking events across the UK that have raised over £70m for people living with cancer.
We’re looking for an experienced project and account manager to drive forward our sector-leading event day experience, in collaboration with the wider Mighty Hikes team, our event agency Threshold Sports and key internal and external partners.
Do you thrive in a fast-paced team environment? Do you have a logistical mindset and excellent attention to detail? Are you passionate about event fundraising? If you answered yes to any of these, this could be the role for you!
About the role:
This role is responsible for the development and delivery of our event project plan in collaboration with event agency, Threshold Sports Ltd., as well as the management of external partners and internal stakeholders to provide a seamless and sector-leading event day experience for our hikers.
A typical week in this role might involve:
- Managing our relationship with Threshold Sports, tracking progress against project plans through weekly project calls
- Liaising with corporate partners and/or sponsors to ensure branding agreements and activations are in place
- Working with our legal and procurement teams to update and approve high-value contracts for key event suppliers
- Producing detailed event plans and health and safety documentation for staff at event weekends
- Scrutinising expenditure budgets to ensure spend is tracking accurately and identifying opportunities for savings or greater efficiencies
- Analysing participant data to inform decisions about start wave capacities and parking
- Leading on meetings with internal and external stakeholders to represent the Mighty Hikes team and inspire high levels of engagement and support
This role does require weekend work (although not at your desk) as you’ll be out and about cheering on our participants. A full UK driver’s license is preferred and a willingness to drive a van is a bonus. You will be compensated for your weekend work with days in lieu.
All candidates are subject to a criminal record check for this role. This cost will be covered by Macmillan and all enhancements must be declared prior to the check.
About you:
- Strong understanding of event management, documentation and health and safety practices
- Excellent account management and communication skills
- Strong budget management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- A proactive and collaborative approach to problem-solving
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to analyse data to report on fundraising performance and make logistical decisions
- Experience managing and/or coaching a team member, creating clear goals and objectives and delegating tasks
In return, we offer a range of benefits including:
- 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
- Pension matched up to 7.5%
- 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
- Flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours, flexibility to work earlier or later around our core working hours of 10am-4pm
- Holiday buying and selling scheme, life insurance, free wills, retail discounts and much more
