About us
At Macmillan you'll find talented people working together to do whatever it takes to support people living with cancer. We're going all out to find even better ways to help even more people who need our support. Our values are at the heart of who we are and everything we do, inspiring our thinking and guiding our actions.
About the role
Do you have exceptional volunteer management skills and the passion to deliver impactful emotional support services for people living with cancer?
It’s an exciting time to join Macmillan Cancer Support as we've recently launched our new five-year strategy and work towards delivering our vision to do whatever it takes to get every person the best support today and spark a revolution in cancer care for the future.
This is a pivotal role which includes supporting the delivery of Macmillan’s Volunteer Buddying Service for people living with cancer. You will assess referrals and individual needs, identify the most appropriate pathways, support and supervise volunteers, monitor service quality and outcomes and help ensure that people living with cancer receive timely and person-centred support. The role is weighted towards service delivery, with approximately two-thirds of time spent supporting the delivery and quality of the Buddy Service and one-third focused on volunteer management and support.
About you
You’ll have experience assessing and responding to individual needs, using a person-centred approach to identify appropriate support and help ensure people receive the right support at the right time. You’ll be confident communicating with people from a range of backgrounds and supporting those facing complex or challenging circumstances.
You’ll also bring strong volunteer management experience, with the ability to support and supervise volunteers throughout their volunteering journey, from selection and induction through to ongoing development, helping them provide a positive experience for people living with cancer.
Equally important is your ability to assess risk and identify safeguarding concerns, take appropriate action in line with policies and procedures, escalate concerns when required, support follow-up actions and maintain accurate records.
Strong relationship-building skills, emotional intelligence and sound judgement are essential. You’ll be committed to delivering a high-quality service, using feedback, insight and outcomes to continuously improve the experience of both volunteers and people living with cancer.
In return, we offer a range of benefits including:
- 25 days holiday plus flexible bank holiday options, increasing by 1 day every year of service up to 30 days
- Pension matched up to 7.5%
- 120+ learning and development offers, with access to external professional qualifications
- Flexible working patterns, such as compressed hours, flexibility to work earlier or later around our core working hours of 10am-4pm
- Holiday buying and selling scheme, life insurance, free wills, retail discounts and much more
