About the role 

We're looking for an experienced data analyst who has worked in the cancer or health data area. They will  lead the delivery of high-impact health data insight projects that help shape Macmillan's understanding of the needs and experiences of people living with cancer. You'll analyse and interpret complex health system, epidemiological and population datasets, turning data into actionable insights that inform organisational strategy, service development and influence national cancer policy. Working with colleagues across Macmillan and external partners, you'll help create an evidence base which is robust, relevant and impactful. 

Key responsibilities 

•  Oversee scoping and delivery of multiple complex innovative projects.  
• Synthesis insights from multiple sources of data and evidence 
•  Share findings with internal and external audiences to dive change  
• Manage strong relationships with academics, governments, cancer registries and research agencies to deliver joint work and influence the UK data landscape 
• Share your research with external audiences at conferences, in reports, in academic papers, media stories and stakeholder meetings. 
• Be a key part of the health data team and form project teams in a matrix-working environment. This will also include role modelling the Macmillan values  

About you 

• A good understanding of the UK’s health and social care system and the data that reports on care activity. Experience of working in a role within the health or social care sector. Ideally familiarity in NHS data and cancer registry data.  
• Analytical and programming skills; experience using Excel and R, to extract, transform and interrogate large datasets for insight generation.  
• Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques such as modelling, predictive analytics and machine learning techniques.  
• Significant knowledge and experience of a range of mixed methods research and other (survey instruments, cancer metrics) analysis methods, including quantitative, qualitative and wider evidence synthesis methodologies 
•  Working with and involving a wide range of stakeholders in the development of projects, including influencing to refine briefs and ensure outputs meet expectations.  
• Socially and politically astute and aware of current trends as they impact on Macmillan’s key audiences (people living with cancer, supporters, and the cancer workforce).
